Dental implants are prosthetic teeth designed to replace damaged or missing natural teeth. Implants replace both the roots and the crowns of your teeth, restoring your appearance as well as promoting better long-term oral health and function. Your final result following an implant treatment should look, feel and function exactly like your natural teeth.

Implants consist of two main parts — the implant post and the implant restoration. Implant posts replace the tooth root and are surgically inserted into your jawbone, anchoring your teeth to the jawbone and providing a stable, healthy foundation for your smile. Following your implant placement procedure, there will be a period of healing where the post integrates with your jawbone. After you have recovered, our oral surgeon will work with you to create your implant restoration. An implant restoration caps the post to finish your treatment and, depending on your needs, may be a single crown, a dental bridge, or a complete or partial denture.

Anyone who has lost teeth is a candidate for implant dentistry, and as long as your teeth and gums are healthy, you should be able to receive implants without any complications. However, if you have a pre-existing condition, such as tooth decay or periodontal disease, you will need to receive treatment for that condition before you can receive a dental implant.

Please also remember that, while dental implants are prosthetic teeth, they require the same care as your natural teeth. Implants that are properly cared for with daily brushing and flossing and with routine visits to your general dentist for preventive care can last a lifetime.

We invite you to call our office today to find out more about implant dentistry and schedule your personal consultation with our experienced oral surgeon. We look forward to helping you regain your smile!
